Halloween.

(pumpkins on the stage, no electric light on the stage, dreadful sound ,voice from above the stage, nobody sees the speaker)

                                  There may be snow, dreadful wind

                                  On the magic day of Halloween

                                  Ghosts, witches, goblins, ugly masks….

But, we’ll have fun. It is day task.

We’ll clap our hands, we’ll stamp our feet.

We’ll dance and sing, we’ll trick or treat.

We’ll keep on walking to, fro, into,

And we shall shout,”Hallo, winter.” 

                                         (The Main Witch appears on the stage, (“Work your magic” is heard while she is moving around the stage and continues very quietly while she starts reciting the poem.)

Hello everybody! We’ve gathered together for our Halloween Party. Let’s begin our holiday, the holiday of witches, ghosts, skeletons, goblins, wizards, corpses and other friends of mine. Welcome. We want all of you to enjoy the party, to be merry and jolly. Today is October, 31. But a week before… Look and listen…

 (The Main Witch leaves.)

(Light is on. Слышится музыка. (песня «Школа») Дети приносят парту, стулья, садятся на стулья, шесть учеников с учебниками английского. Кто-то играет с телефоном, кто-то слушает музыку, две девочки обсуждают и просматривают журнал, один повторяет слова, один листает учебник….  На авансцене, на экране – перекидной календарь. На календаре – 25 октября. Звенит звонок.  У доски появляется учитель. Все встали, сели)

Teacher: Dear pupils, as you know, in a week’s time we are going to have a Halloween’s Party. And now we have to decide who will be who and what we shall do. In this party pupils from the 8th form will take part. What are your suggestions?

P1: We should have a contest of posters.
T: It’s a good idea! What else?
P2: To make a lot of pumpkins with terrible grins and lights in then.
T: Of course, we will.
P3: To draw monster pictures to frighten the little ones.
T: Just don’t frighten them to death.
All pupils: Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha…
T: Any other ideas?
P4: Why not make a dress-up parade? I’ll be a vampire.

P5: I’ll be a witch.

P6: Me too.
P1: I’ll be a demon.
P2, P3: We’ll be evil spirits.

P4: I’ll be a monster.
P6: I’ll also be a black cat. Can I, can I?
T: OK, OK. Wait, Wait... A large carnival procession. Well, and then make your costumes. And don’t forget, we should write and send out invitations to our party.
Next time we’ll talk about when Hallowe’en was first celebrated and why a pumpkin is a symbol of this festival.

(Гаснет свет, продолжается тема школы, дети утаскивают мебель, свет появляется)
  Ребята с рулонами бумаги, кистями, карандашами, ножницами бегают по сцене. На авансцене – перекидной календарь. На календаре – 27 октября. Попеременно на календаре  перелистываются страницы. На стене висят несколько плакатов.  Девочки за столом мастерят костюмы. Кто-то вырезает тыкву. Кто-то подписывает приглашения. Все это – на фоне музыки, без слов. И вот – на календаре 30 октября.
Гаснет свет, загорается снова, освещается листок календаря, на котором – 31 октября.) Во время всего спектакля на экране презентации меняются слайды.)

(Выскакивают три ведьмы, одна поёт Wild Dances,остальные танцуют, после стихи)

Witch one: It’s Halloween! It’s Halloween!

       The moon is full and bright

       And we shall see what can’t be seen

        On any other night.

Witch two: Skeletons and ghosts and ghouls

                    Grinning goblins fighting duels

                    Werewolves rising from their tombs,

                    Witches on their magic brooms.

Witch three: In masks and gowns we haunt the street

                   And knock on doors for trick or treat.

                    Tonight we are the King an Queen

                    For, oh, tonight it’s Halloween

  (Music continues for a short time)

Witch one: Dear guests!

 Now we know and can tell you that Halloween in Britain was first celebrated many centuries ago by Celtic priests called Druids. They were observing the end of autumn and the beginning of winter. They thought that Halloween was the night when the witches came out. As they were afraid of the witches they put on different clothes and painted their faces to fool the evil spirits.

Witch four: Хэллоун называют Днём всех Святых, однако истинная история праздника восходит к времени задолго до эры христианства. Древние Друиды жгли костры, дабы отпугнуть души умерших, в Древнем Риме в эти дни проходил фестиваль богини садов Романы, римляне традиционно запекали яблоки и орехи прямо на разведенных, на площадях огромных кострах. С приходом христианства Хэллоун остался таинственным и одновременно весёлым празднеством. В Уэльсе, например люди в устрашающих костюмах  с самодельными фонарями, такими как эти, устраивали шествия по главной улице, чтобы освободить город от нечистой силы. 

Witch two: It is not really a religious holiday nowadays; it is a holiday for children. In the USA and Canada people often go to parties on Halloween. Children may put on terrible frightening costumes and masks. Some children paint their faces to look like monsters. Then they carry boxes or bags from house to house. Every time they come to a new house, they say “Trick or Treat”. The grown-ups put a treat – money or some sweets– in their bags. If they do not get the treat they may play a trick: put some shaving cream or soap for example on windows of the parked cars.

 Witch four: Большинство древних традиций сохранилось и по сегодняшний день. Тыква с вырезанным устрашающим лицом, изображения ведьм и чёрных котов, фигурки привидений в белом – всё это создаёт картину необыкновенного волшебства. А известная традиция “Trick or Treat”, которая звучит примерно так «Если не угостите, то мы вам насолим». Этой фразой посетители предупреждают хозяев, что если они не получат чего-нибудь вкусненького, то сыграют над хозяевами какую-то неприятную шутку.

Witch three: In America and in Britain young and old take part in parades together. They are dressed in costumes. There are hundreds of orange “pumpkins” in their hands. The festival lasts almost till early morning.

Witch four: И сегодня никто не удивляется, увидев в этот день на остановке девушку с кошачьим хвостом, спешащего на работу призрака, или встретив в лавке соседа в маске призрака. Американские и Британские дети тоже идут в школу в костюмах, с раскрашенными лицами и в масках.  Хэллоун – прекрасный повод повеселиться, подурачиться и попугать друг друга.
